Note: Due to construction cost escalations, ACHD anticipates approximately $16 million in overprogrammed projects in 2009. In order to balance the budget, ACHD will have to delay some projects currently programmed for construction in 2009. To provide input about the projects that are top priorities for you, please contact Andrew O’Connor, ACHD Five Year Work Plan Coordinator – .

Believe it or not, roadway projects are often years in the making by the time the dirt actually begins to turn. Depending on the source of funds, relatively simple road projects can take anywhere from three to five years or more to secure all the necessary environmental and other clearances, purchase right-of-way, design the facility, and construct the project. Timelines tend to extend with more complex projects. This page provides background on how typical road projects move from concept to construction, and points users toward several documents that outline how road improvements will unfold in the future.
