Meet our solid waste and recycling service provider  

 

Republic Services is the solid waste collection contractor for the City of Meridian.  Republic Services. has been hauling garbage and recycling in Idaho for almost thirty years.  They are a national leader in environmental services and provide solid waste collection, transfer, disposal, and recycling services to solid waste markets in 40 states and Puerto Rico. They are an environmentally responsible partner, promoting sustainable practices that preserve and protect our natural resources in Idaho and beyond.  They are founding members of the Treasure Valley Clean Cities Coalition and regularly invest in equipment, technology and "best" management practices that maximize operational efficiency while ensuring the safety of our customers, employees and the environment.

Republic Services recently shared the Summary of Solid Waste Collection and Recycling for the first quarter of 2013. You may view the report by clicking here.

 

During the first quarter of 2013, Republic Services collected trash from approximately 26,546 households each month. Those households generated 7,666 tons of trash during the first three months of the year. Those trash tons breakdown to an average household waste of 193 pounds per month. This was a slight overall decrease of 1.5% from the first quart of 2012.

Curbside collection of used motor oil was first offered to Meridian residents during May 1999. In 2006, consumed cooking oil was added to the program. Meridian is the only city in the Treasure Valley to offer used cooking oil recycling to its residents.


During the first Quarter of 2013, residents recycled 470 gallons of used oil collected from approximately 261 residents. The chart below shows seasonality in oil recycling as collection increases with spring approaching.

Household Hazardous Waste Collection
The Meridian Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) collection site, located in the SSC parking lot, is the busiest mobile collection site in Ada County. Meridian residents can drop off their HHW between noon and 7:00 pm every Monday except major holidays.

Republic Services Transfer Station Collection
Republic Services’ transfer station accepts waste from commercial trucks, residential trucks, roll off trucks, mini roll off trucks, and public vehicles. The waste collected at the transfer station is taken to the Ada County Landfill for disposal.

 

There were 19,856 tons of waste compacted at the transfer station during the first quarter of 2013, an increase of 38% from first quarter 2012.

 

Republic Services offers commercial co-mingled recycling utilizing 95-gallon carts for
small businesses.
