Mayor's Faith Ambassador Council
Meridian Mayor Tammy de Weerd has created a Faith Ambassador Council, comprised of adult and teen youth representatives from area churches and faith organizations, to meet monthly to discuss common areas of community need and concern relating to the strength of well-being of Meridian children and families. (see mission and vision below)
This non-denominational group generally meets the 2nd Thursday of each month (excluding major holidays) at 4:00 pm in the Meridian Police Department's first floor conference room. (1401 E. Watertower Lane in Meridian)

Vision:
Meridian is a place where faith congregations are valued and engaged in creating a sense of community for its families and children.
Mission:
To create effective communication and service linkages between the faith community and the City of Meridian that will enhance the well-being of all Meridian’s citizens, particularly its young people.
Overview and Purpose:
The Mayor’s Faith Ambassador Council is a unique opportunity to bring together a diverse group of individuals, representing different faiths, for the common goal of enhancing or supporting a healthy community for Meridian’s families and children. Providing our young people with the necessary resources for healthy development is a multifaceted task that requires more than one approach. Faith is a factor in adding value and purpose in an individual’s life and therefore, creating linkages to the faith community provides an additional resource for those interested in making those connections.
The Faith Ambassador Council is a network of Meridian’s faith community representatives that serve to advise, inform, and advocate on behalf of our most vulnerable citizens, our youth. The primary purpose of the Council is to serve as a communication liaison between the faith community and the Mayor’s office. The result is a supportive network of faith throughout the community. . .
Roles and Responsibilities:
- Advise the Mayor of critical issues pertaining to youth development, engagement, and involvement
- The Ambassador will share information with clergy and their respective congregations of opportunities and critical needs
o This includes, but it not limited to disseminating information via a bulletin, flyer, email distribution lists, etc.
o Somebody in Meridian Needs You!
- Serve as a liaison between each congregation and the community
- Facilitate a dialog within each congregation for civic engagement
- Attendance of monthly meetings (substitutes are requested when the ambassador is unable to attend)
- Assist in recruiting volunteers and participate in events that support families and children
Selection Process:
Faith organizations will recommend to the Mayor one adult and one youth to represent their organization.
