Public Works Department

Question:

Who do I call about problems with storm water drainage or flooding?

Answer:

Ada County Highway District is responsible for all storm water drainage generated by the public right-of-way, or streets. The City of Meridian does not have any jurisdiction over storm water drainage from streets or from private property. The City of Meridian Public Works Department does, however, review the grading and drainage plans for all new multi-family, commercial and industrial development to ensure that the storm water is either retained on site or, if discharged to an existing stream or ditch, that the project owner receives approval for the discharge from the agency having jurisdiction over the stream or ditch. The one exception to these policies is that in rare instances, a subdivision or commercial development may have privately owned and maintained streets. In these cases, the Homeowners or Business Owners Associations are responsible for operation, maintenance and repair of storm water conveyance and disposal systems.

Question:

How do I, as a contractor, supplier, or service provider, get on the Citys bid list or Request for Proposals?

Answer:

The Public Works Department does not keep or maintain either a bidders list or list of contacts for sending Requests For Proposal. State of Idaho statutes regarding bidding laws for municipalities very clearly detail the public bidding requirements. All Advertisements For Bids and Requests for Proposals are published in the Valley News a minimum of two times and frequently placed in the two local plan centers. One exception is that the Water Department maintains a list of qualified contractors allowed to perform live or hot taps on water mains.

Question:

Where does the City of Meridian advertise for various projects?

Answer:

The Valley Times is the official newspaper for the City of Meridian. We will occasionally place an additional advertisement in the Idaho Statesman and/or on our website.

Question:

I would like to report a problem with a streetlight. Who do I talk to?

Answer:

You can either call in to the Public Works Department at 898-5500, or submit your report online using the Report Streetlight Outage at the top left of this page.  Either option will provide the Public Works Staff with the information needed in order to get the service order processed.
